On Jan. 2, 1992, the Boston Red Sox signed free agent left-handed pitcher Frank Viola.
Viola posted a 25-21 record with a 3.40 ERA in three seasons with Boston.
Viola finished his 15-season career with 176 wins and a 3.73 ERA. He was the 1988 American League Cy Young award winner when he posted a 24-7 record and 2.64 ERA for the Minnesota Twins. Viola also went 17-10 with a 2.90 ERA and won three games in the playoffs in 1987 while leading the Twins to a World Series title.
